Winter News Letter
Dear Villager
Happy New Year and a very warm welcome to all residents of Bolney.
It is just over a year since our previous Chairman, David Martin, passed
over the reins of a somewhat declining society. At the time he
had intimated to me that the society would probably fold if no
one was willing to take it on. This seemed a shame in view of
the fact that the society had been running since the 1950’s.
It also sounded ridiculous that Bolney Village Society should
not exist when it was originally set up for the village and
the societies within. As always happens, good intentions take
far longer to implement than one would anticipate. However, I
am pleased to announce a number of initiatives that I hope you
like.
In the past, the society has
concerned itself in monitoring planning applications. However,
after discussion, it was agreed that we have a Parish Council
that does that, so why repeat the process?
It was stated that if there were any contentious issues
of an environmental nature, we hoped that they would be
brought to the society’s attention. It is important that
this society is inclusive and progressive. Therefore in that
vein, it is our intention that we should be responsible for a
little more fun and enjoyment for the whole family both young
and old (see forthcoming events).
This society will only thrive if villagers get involved and participate.
If you have any ideas or comments please contact me by phone
or e-mail. We are very aware that some people would possibly
like to participate but cannot do so because of cost. In
certain circumstances, we may be able to help. Do not be
embarrassed to ask, as any enquiry will be dealt with in
strictest confidence.
I know we all lead very busy lives but the recent tragic
events in Asia show how wonderful people are when they pull
together. Come and meet your fellow villagers. We look forward
to you and your family joining the Bolney Village Society and
seeing you at the events.

I would like to add that the Bolney Village Society has committed £100
to the Tsunami Earthquake Fund.
As you are all
aware there are a great many organizations and societies
within Bolney. As a result there have been a number of times
that there have been clashes of dates for events or meetings.
With this in mind I am pleased to announce that the Bolney
Village Society are sponsoring and organising 2 calendar boards to try and help stop these clashes. With the kind
permission of Ann Bennett-Smith at the post office, and the
cooperation of
Tina Bedwell at the Rawson, a calendar will appear at both
premises starting 24th January 2005. This will be
coordinated by Mrs. Ann Gardiner (01444-881294) and she is the
person that everyone needs to contact to inform of any
function so the calendars can be kept up to date. She in turn
will liaise with David Ellis so the Bolney Village web site
can be updated. It would be very much appreciated that people
leave Ann to update the calendars.
